On my way to Camp Cove today, I stumbled across a world music “festival” by Watson’s Bay. They set up a small stage in front of Doyles Takeaway, towards the bottom of the hill, facing the water. I got there at about 12:30PM… just when people started showing up.
I saw one of the best flamenco bands I’ve seen to date… Bandalucia. Sadly, I can’t seem to find a band website and I don’t believe they’re on mySpace. I thought they were really good, though.
Flamenco music is surprisingly graceful despite the powerful incremental rhythms that make it so distinctive. Have you ever watched a male flamenco dancer? I usually only see the females ones… or I catch them in pairs. There’s so much charisma built in… unbelievable stage presence… (and the skinniest legs I’ve ever seen on a guy).
